SCCE Thanks The Community

LittleBigPlanet

Sony Computer Entertainment and Media Molecule would like to thank everyone in the LittleBigPlanet online community for an amazing start! So far a staggering 84,000 individual levels have been uploaded and more than 27 million level play throughs have been completed. We couldn’t be happier with the initial efforts from our community members; the variety and quality of some of the creations has been astounding. We’ve seen everything from great platform adventures, puzzles and quizzes through to stories and races. We have even had a wedding proposal created entirely in the game!

Sony Computer Entertainment and Media Molecule would also like to take this opportunity to praise the fantastic spirit that our online community has displayed. The vast majority of content uploaded to date has been fun and suitable for all of our community members. In a very few cases we have upheld complaints regarding unsuitable content or infringement of intellectual property, with less than 0.5% of levels actively moderated as a result of complaints from other users.

Sony Computer Entertainment are committed to continually improving our moderation procedure and the methods of communication we use, in particular regarding the reasons that user complaints are upheld. In the meantime, here are some suggestions for all of our creators:

Ensure that the content you share with other users is suitable for all ages - everybody has access to your level if you publish it.
Please respect other people’s intellectual property rights. For example, don’t use images, brands or logos that you’re not entitled to use.
If you come across any content that you feel the need to report, then please do it responsibly. Hoax reports will be considered inappropriate behaviour.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed to LittleBigPlanet so far. Keep enjoying yourselves!

Moderated Levels

16 Nov 2008 In: News

LittleBigPlanet

Remember my Super Mario level? It’s gone now, it was moderated. A lot of people complained about the moderation of their levels, and Sony explained:

“Oasis is the name both of a band and of a soft drink (at least in Europe), however any level using the title “Oasis” would be absolutely fine right now unless it included music by Oasis the band, or the likeness of the drinks bottle.

There is a lot of exaggeration at play here with exactly what’s going on with moderation. Firstly, no level is moderated unless it has been reported using the Good Grief tool, at which point it will only be blocked from online play if it is in violation of the EULA. To date there have been fewer than 200 levels which have been blocked - considerably less than 0.5% of all the levels published. The great majority of moderated levels were removed due to containing obscenity.

Secondly, even if a level is moderated you will still be able to access it offline on your moon, and make changes if you know where the problem was, before republishing.

Finally, if your level is moderated you will receive a message informing you that it has happened - if you don’t receive a message, it hasn’t been moderated. Try searching for your PSN ID to find all the levels you’ve published.”

Fair enough. However, my level is not even on My Moon, because I created it during the Beta. And I never got a message, unless “Your level was moderated” is the message.

Little Big Folders

Maximilian Larsson, also known as Mxmln, created an amazing folder set for Mac OS X. The funny thing is he doesn’t even own a PlayStation, but was inspired by the game anyway. You can download the set here.

Image Import Tool Is NOT Coming Soon

5 Nov 2008 In: News

LittleBigPlanet

If you don’t have a PlayStation Eye or you feel like you need more quality in your textures, I have some great news. Alex Evans said that the image importer exists but was pulled from the game because of time constraints. However it will be released by Christmas.

Sony is now denying this rumor on the PlayStation Forums. A developer just posted this update:

There are a couple of these rumours flying around today, so to clear things up - image importing is very much technically viable which may have been what Alex is referring to, however there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons. Announcements of future content releases, whether free, paid for, feature update, costume, sticker or whatever will always come through the official websites for LittleBigPlanet and Media Molecule, if you hear of updates through any other source please take it with a pinch of salt until it has been confirmed or denied.

Right now there are no plans to introduce image importing to the game, and we’ll update if that changes.
